Fight for JOY (October 5, 2010)
We talked this weekend about how to ruin our life by always being NEGATIVE. So many times we don’t make the connection with our negativity and our lack of obedience. We all tend to get negative and bitter but completely ignore the fact that we might be choosing the negativity. I don’t think most people start out the day wanting to be negative but due to the constant choosing to disobey God it is an inevitable by-product.
When God asks us to do something in our life it may not feel like fun at the time but I can guarantee He does it for our JOY. God is not trying to restrict your happiness in any way, He is trying to enhance it. It’s like the phrases that we have learned to say but don’t really believe: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” None of us believed that UNTIL we actually did it and found it was true. Maybe, just maybe God knows more about happiness, joy and having fun then we do. Maybe it is not God that is restricting us, maybe it is us. Maybe it is our unwillingness to trust and obey Him.
What I have learned along the way is that joy is something you have to fight for because it doesn’t just happen. If joy is directly tied to obedience, then you are going to have to fight to obey. At times everything in you will want to live life your own way but it is at those times you have to fight. You have to fight your desires to do what you want and submit to the authority of God and do what He wants. And if you do, then you will be happier, more filled with joy and blessed.
